December 3rd Recap - New Winners

The era of Hookers/Sparks domination has ended (at least for now). Sunday night we crowned a new champion at Local 506. Congratulations to the Fuss Frucks for winning what may have been the most challenging Trivia Night yet.
The 4 categories were:
1. Booze
2. Artists and their states (visual round)
3. Music of the world (audio round)
4. The Billboard Top 200 Chart
Background music theme: Songs with proper names
I created the questions for rounds 1 & 3, Glenn did round 4 and the background theme, and we had our first Guest Contributor, Stacy Philpott of Team Sparks, who did the visual round.
Here are some of the questions from the evening:
1. What former Rhodes Scholar wrote the classic “Sunday Morning Coming Down”?
2. The number four album this week, “Love”, features variations of this act's material and serves as the soundtrack to Cirque Du Soleil’s Las Vegas show?
3. Jay Z’s “Kingdom Come” debuted at Number One this week, his ninth album to reach number one, third most all-time behind The Beatles and which artist?
4. On his debut solo album, Scott Walker recorded a cover of “
Some of the background songs were:
Stereolab – Cybele’s Reverie
Decemberists – Leslie Anne Levine
The Rolling Stones - Lady Jane
Joni Mitchell - The Last Time I Saw Richard
Cat Power - Willie
Spott's photo line-up had Schooly D, Babyface, Low, Seven Mary 3(!), and some others. Having an outline of the state inside the photo helped quite a bit, I have to say.
My "Music of the World" audio round had snippets of songs from Sigur Ros, Shonen Knife, Broken Social Scene, and the legendary World Music singer Kylie Minogue. I only asked for the name of the artist and country of origin, and in most cases teams got at least the country of origin correct. I thought the only sneaky one on there was Lucky Dube, who's a reggae artist but happens to be from South Africa. Still, two teams got that correct. Alas, no one got my Russian singer (Vladimir Vysotsky) correct, but I just had to include him or else they'll take my Slavic Studies degree away (or poison me!).
As I mentioned earlier, this was one of the more challenging Trivia Nights, but teams still did very well. The Fuss Frucks really pulled out in front in the photo round, but otherwise it was very close, with three teams tied or within a point of one another at the end.
This Sunday is the last Trivia Night of the year. Please come and join us. The next Trivia Nights will be January 14th and 28th, which is a departure from our usual pattern of the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month.

What the hell? Crowson wouldn't pose for the winning photo when he was on my team?!
